Maintaining Confidence: The Entrepreneur’s Biggest Strength!
You’re an entrepreneur and people depend on you to be upbeat, to show leadership, to have your game face on always, but to be open, honest, and authentic at the same time. They expect you to be confident in what you are selling, and confident in your manner. It’s a lot to ask for. But when you are feeling down, and showing it, others can sense it and depending on the situation, it could cost you a deal, or maybe even a client. Here’s how you can maintain that confident persona when you need it the most.
- It’s not about you. It’s about your clients. Spend your energy focusing on addressing the needs of your clients and adding value to their lives and that will drive away those fears that crumble confidence. Your needs will be met to the extent that you help address the needs of others.
- Even if you aren’t feeling confident, project the image of how you aspire to be. Dress appropriately, stand tall, and walk with your shoulders back. This posture, whether in public or alone, automatically instills confidence in your self-worth and an enhanced image of your value in the business world. Practice the postures of a confident person and you will be more confident.
- Take action. Taking steps toward a task or a goal is the ultimate anxiety buster. Action builds conviction, which your clients will see in your eyes and your demeanor. Each step along your entrepreneurial path will reveal another step to be taken. So get into action!
- Record your achievements. Daily, weekly, monthly, take a few minutes to write down what you’ve achieved. Big or small achievements, they all count. Remember that the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time and the analogy to self-development is also true, whether or not you ever eat a real elephant in your entire life. Any great achievement is merely the sum total of all the step-by-step achievements and learning experiences along the way.
Our clients benefit from being coached through this exercise of recording and learning from their achievements. The biggest gift that coaching brings to the exercise is transforming what may feel like “falling short of a goal” into “achievement of an incredibly important step”. Call me if you’d like me to walk you through this Success Builder process. And remember, your first call is free.
